あなたを非難する人々がいたとしてもあなたに欠陥があるというわけではない
なぜなら中傷の対象はいつも美しいものだったからだ
美にはそういう嫌疑が伴う
鴉がこの上ない美しい空を飛ぶように、
あなたが善良であるなら　中傷者も認めざるを得ない
あなたの価値は思ったよりも偉大で　時にさえ愛されることを
なぜなら害虫は最も甘やかなつぼみを愛し
あなたは純粋で汚れしらずの青春の盛りを呈するからだ、
あなたは青春時代の誘惑の待ち伏せに遭っても
襲われることもなくあるいは襲われたとしても打ち破ってしまった
だがこのようなあなたへの賛辞も　いつまでも
妬みを縛り付けることはできず　それは自由にはびこるだろう、
なんらかの悪の嫌疑があなたの外見を覆うことがなかったとしたら
あなたはただひとり多くのひとびとの心をとらえるだろう。

That thou art blamed shall not be thy defect,
For slander's mark was ever yet the fair;
The ornament of beauty is suspect,
A crow that flies in heaven's sweetest air.
So thou be good, slander doth but approve
Thy worth the greater, being wooed of time;
For canker vice the sweetest buds doth love,
And thou present'st a pure unstained prime.
Thou hast passed by the ambush of young days
Either not assailed, or victor being charged;
Yet this thy praise cannot be so thy praise,
To tie up envy, evermore enlarged,
If some suspect of ill masked not thy show,
Then thou alone kingdoms of hearts shouldst owe.
