王族たちの大理石のあるいは黄金の記念碑も
この力強い韻律より長く保存されることはないだろう
この詩の中で　あなたは　ずぼらな時の経過によってつけられた
汚れをぬぐい去られることのない石よりも　まぶしく輝くだろう、
荒廃させる戦争が彫像をひっくり返し
石工の作品を根こそぎにするときでも
軍神の剣あるいは戦火が
あなたの生涯の記録を燃やすことはないだろう、
死に向かって、そしてあらゆる忘却という敵意に向かって
あなたは進むだろう、この世を疲弊させ終末へと向かわせる
後世の人々の間でも
あなたへの称賛は存在し続けるだろう、
だから、あなたに最後の審判が下されるまでは
あなたはこの詩の中に生き続け、恋人たちの目の中に住まうのだ。

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone, besmear'd with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword, nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death, and all oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.
